Are Your Carpets Starting to Smell Bad Because of Your Cat?
Advice from a Professional Carpet Cleaning Services Provider on How to Clean up Cat Urine
Our carpet cleaning services professionals have decided to share some tips on how to effectively clean cat urine and prevent your furniture and carpets from being given away due to the smell.
Take a paper towel, and soak up as much of the urine as you can. Should it be a particularly big spot and you don’t wish to waste paper towels, use a cloth or any old clothes that are past due to be thrown away. Should the spot be on a carpet, stand on the spot, and try to remember to wear something on your feet when doing this.
Never rub at the stain. Should it be dry, pour cold water on it, and then blot.
Try not to use products that contain ammonia. The urine smell in them may encourage your pet to mark the spot all over again.
Use a product found at your local pet store or a home made mixture, using ingredients in your home. However, ensure to test both of these on a small area beforehand.
Here’s an excellent home made mixture. Using water and vinegar, as vinegar is great at killing bacteria. This mixture is good for old and new stains. Use 1 1/2 cups of water and half a cup of vinegar. Pour this over the stain and let it soak for around 5 minutes. However, please note, vinegar is not recommended on marble or stone.
There’s nothing like baking soda. Once the water and vinegar solution has dried, sprinkle some baking soda over the area.
You’re not quite done yet with home made remedies. Mix 3/4 of a cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon of detergent. Sprinkle this over the baking soda. However, again, first test it on a small area. You have to do this because peroxide does discolour or bleach fabrics. Work the baking soda into the carpet.
Then let the mixture dry for several hours. Once the spot’s dry, vacuum the excess out. Should the stain still be there, then call our carpet cleaning services company immediately.
